RSS Feeds

I had always wondered what that little subscribe icon meant. I have a problem of finding something through a link then forgetting what the site's name was so I write it down on a little piece of paper which I leave in my pockets to go through the wash. Hopefully this will cut down on that.
This was probably the hardest exercise so far, although I'm glad I set up an account.

Technology Post

I might not have my flying car yet, but UF researchers are hoping to have a prototype flying saucer out within a year.

I also read this interesting article in The New Yorker last week about this Danish farming community which has used existing technology to cut their dependence on oil, so much so that they are a supplier of energy now.

As for my larger thoughts on technology, I'm all for it, I suppose. I mean, really, is anyone going to talk about disliking technology while using a computer? Or after being kept alive past the age 13 or so through antibiotics and surgeries and X-rays and stuff?

Spell with Flickr

I did Spell with Flickr for this one. I poked around a couple of the other applications, like the searching for colors and stuff, but the Spell thing was my favorite. The only problem is that I couldn't think of anything to spell out. First thing that came into my head was 'onion,' so I tried that first. Unfortunately, since each letter is a separate picture, I couldn't figure out how to post the whole thing, so here's what the word'onion' looks like in flickr pictures. If you enter the word again or refresh the page, you get different letters.

Then looking at my ancient library photo, I entered the phrase, "Release the Kraken." Pretty cool.

Flickr/Library 1.0

With all this talk of technology and library 2.0, I feel it is important to reflect upon what makes a library truly great. Bricks and papyrus. In our fast-paced modern world, we seem to have sped away from the simple pleasures of retiring to our harems and unscrolling a good tragedy. This is a shame.

This is a photo of the Celcus Library in Turkey which was in operation around the 2nd century AD, according to the internet. This was right when everyone was upgrading to library 1.0, to the frustration of those who were quite happy with library .5.

7 1/2 Habits

Probably building my toolbox will be hardest, since I'm not really sure what that means (I'm on the desk, so I can't listen to the presentation and powerpoint gives me hives anyway).Easiest? I'll say accepting responsibility for my learning. Sure, let's go with that one.
