Flickr/Library 1.0


With all this talk of technology and library 2.0, I feel it is important to reflect upon what makes a library truly great. Bricks and papyrus. In our fast-paced modern world, we seem to have sped away from the simple pleasures of retiring to our harems and unscrolling a good tragedy. This is a shame.

This is a photo of the Celcus Library in Turkey which was in operation around the 2nd century AD, according to the internet. This was right when everyone was upgrading to library 1.0, to the frustration of those who were quite happy with library .5.
